Beto absolutely crushed it in this week’s Democratic debate in Detroit. From clearly articulating to the American people why Medicare for America is the best plan to get to guaranteed, high quality, universal health care, and directly assuring viewers his plan would not raise middle class taxes - to having one of the most powerful moments of the evening where he discussed America’s legacy of slavery and called for an end to systemic racism across the country.

Want to know what some of your fellow #TeamBeto members were doing during the debate? Across the country, Beto for America volunteers (including my mom!) hosted Debate Watch Parties, bringing together supporters and undecided voters to watch as Beto talked about his vision for the country.
In Los Angeles, one of our volunteers, Kiyoko, held a watch party at a local restaurant. ✨Kiyoko was a first time voter in 2018, and had never been involved with a campaign before this year!✨She’s supporting Beto because his honesty, vision, and empathy inspires her to get involved. Kiyoko told us hosting was easy - she posted the event online to invite folks she knew and received a list of local voters to call from Team Beto (that’s what we’re here for!). We know that every single contribution that comes into our campaign are your hard-earned dollars - and we want to be upfront with you about where those dollars are going. In this issue of Writing No One Off, we’re giving you an inside look at how your contributions enabled us to reach more voters and get our message out about Beto’s vision to more people around this week’s Democratic debate.
Your contributions allowed us to run digital ads on the platforms more voters are spending their time on - Facebook, Twitter and Instagram - and make sure they saw Tuesday’s poll showing Beto as the only Democratic candidate who can beat Donald Trump in Texas by double digits, far surpassing anyone else in the field.

This week, we rolled out two brand new features on our site: our plans and a new bio page about Beto.

This week, we’re featuring Robyn Kanner, Beto for America’s Director of Creative and Product but more informally known as the genius behind those brand-new features on our site we just talked about and our “Believe” page. Similar to many of you, Robyn had never worked in politics before joining the campaign. Check out why Beto’s campaign led her to make the jump (and follow her on Twitter if you’re not already):
Q: What made you want to work for Beto - especially having never worked in politics?
I first heard of Beto through The Mars Volta. I was 17 when Frances The Mute came out and fell in love with this album. I had only heard songs with 4/4 time signatures but these songs had 9/8 and 5/4. When I looked up The Mars Volta, I learned about Foss -- a band with Cedric (The Mars Volta) and none other than Beto O'Rourke. Then, when Beto's Senate campaign took off, the name sounded oddly familiar. I was hooked.
Q: Describe punk rock in one sentence to someone who has no idea what it is (me):
I can't answer this question in one sentence so I'm breaking the rules and adding a screenshot of a paragraph. Sorry Rachel.
Q: What's one thing that surprised you about El Paso?
Before El Paso, I lived in New York City. As long as the traffic was clear, I'd cross the street. In El Paso, you've got to follow the walking/no walking sign. It's making me a more patient person.
Q: Best moment so far on the campaign:
I really enjoyed working with Patrick Gabaldon on the illustrations for our new bio page. He's got a great eye and knows El Paso better than anyone. It's exciting to see El Paso through his eyes.
Q: Without giving too much away, what's one thing you're working on that you're most excited about?
When it was announced that I joined Beto's campaign, a friend asked me what it felt like to be one of the first (and highest ranking) trans women on a presidential campaign. I told them that I didn't care about being the first. I just want us to be number one.
It's like Beto says: let's bring everybody in. No me importa. This campaign isn't about one person. It's about all of us. That's what I'm most excited about.
